Dr.Zhiwei Shan, Associate Professor

School of Civil Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing, China

Biography

Dr. Zhiwei Shan is an associate professor at Southeast University and was selected into the "Double Innovation Doctor" program of Jiangsu Province. He has presided over and participated in a number of National Natural Science Foundation projects and provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects. His research focuses on marine engineering structures, performance evaluation of existing building structures, and structural health monitoring/inspection. He has published more than 30 SCI papers, applied for 5 invention patents, and participated in the compilation of 3 specifications. His research achievients won the "Commendation Merit" under the R&D Award category of The HKIE Structural Division Excellence Award 2021 (SEA). He serves as Editorial Board Miber-Civil of Scientific Report (SCI), Special Issue Guest Editor of Buildings (SCI), miber of the Topical Advisory Panel for Infrastructures (SCI), and the Early Career Editorial Board Miber for Sustainability (SCI) and Earthquake Engineering and Resilience (ESCI). He is also a miber of ICASS 2023. In addition, he holds several acadiic positions such as Deputy Secretary-General of the BAMI-I Oil and Gas Committee and Secretary-General of the 5th National Acadiic Conference of Young Scholars on Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering for Infrastructure.

Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Corroded Space Grid Structures

Abstract

Single-layer latticed shells feature high load-transfer efficiency and flexible modeling, making them a commonly used roof structure form in large public buildings such as gymnasiums and airport terminals. However, the corrosion problem of structures during long-term service is one of the main causes that threatens structural safety. Therefore, this study first explores in depth the impact of corrosion on the mechanical properties of commonly used members in space grid structures at the component level. Furthermore, this study takes the K8-type spherical latticed shell and cylindrical reticulated shell as the research object to carry out numerical simulation on the collapse process of the latticed shell, considering the time-varying effect of corrosion. The results show that the as the degree of corrosion increases, the mechanical properties of both the members and the structure are severely weakened. Regarding the collapse process of the latticed shell, the position of the initial failure node, the geometric size of the latticed shell and the form of load distribution all have significant effects on the degradation degree of the anti-collapse performance of the latticed shell. In order to conduct a quantitative assessment of corroded space grid structures, a method for evaluating the mechanical properties of corroded members was proposed and an intelligent evaluation model of the anti-progressive collapse performance of the corroded latticed shell was established.
